Morirse de memoria
Emiliano Monge
NOVEL | 2008 | 124 pages
A man opens his eyes on his bed and wonders "What did I dream that made me wake up wondering who I am." From that moment on, the man will become a passenger of his own delirium, a spectator of the torture that constitutes surviving his will to be alive. Time and time again the man goes back to this question and, without realizing it, empties the contents of his memory in order to answer it. Among the thousands of images that populate his thoughts; a tragedy. The fire burns brighter. The fire that functions as a parable of existence. The man asks himself, "What if the fire does not give off the heat that we impute to it, what if it only concentrates it, if it takes it of the things that witness its expansion", in the same way that it concentrates the existence of his brother, of his ex-wife Claudia, his pets, the objects that inhabit the spaces that enclose him, and melts them inside his memory to try to find something in his environment that explains who he is and, most of all, why he is. Morirse de memoria, Emiliano Monge's first novel explores the abysses of the only thing that does not leave us until everything leaves us; what we remember and relive, even if what we evoke, never actually happened.
